Foliar and root applications of the rare sugar tagatose control powdery mildew in soilless grown cucumbers

چکیده
Powdery mildew is a constant threat to cucumber production in soilless systems requiring the intensive use of chemical fungicides limit yield losses. However, toxicity risks for growers and food safety issues linked fungicide residues represent major concern crops with frequent extended harvest period, like cucumber, create an urgent need eco-friendly alternatives. The objective this study was assess effectiveness foliar root applications rare sugar tagatose, against naturally occurring powdery (Podosphaera xanthii Golovinomyces cichoracearum) on plants grown system under commercial-like greenhouse conditions. Foliar tagatose reduced severity incidence conditions low untreated plants, but standard strategy lost their effect control when disease increasing steadily. combination sulphur effectively high Overall, pressure, were more effective than treatment reducing severity. application directly inhibited P. conidial germination. After application, translocated leaves guaranteeing systemic protection no accumulation fruits. Root novel reduce applications.

متن کاملFoliar nectar enhances plant-mite mutualisms: the effect of leaf sugar on the control of powdery mildew by domatia-inhabiting mites.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Mite domatia are small structures on the underside of plant leaves that provide homes for predacious or fungivorous mites. In turn, mites inhabiting domatia defend the plant by consuming leaf herbivores and pathogens, which can result in a domatia-mediated, plant-mite defence mutualism. Several recent studies have suggested that plants receive enhanced benefits when they pro...
متن کاملFungi Associated With the Powdery Mildew of Buxus Trees in Gorgan Landscape
In this research, for taxonomic studies and identification of the fungi associated with the powdery mildew(Oidium euonymi- japonici) of Buxus trees (Euonymus japonica), the infected leaves were collected during autumn and winter 2012-2013 in Gorgan (Golestan province -Iran). The samples after washing and surface sterilizing, were cultured on PDA medium(with boxwood extract). Then based on availab...
متن کاملEffect of powdery mildew infection on photosynthesis by leaves and chloroplasts of sugar beets.
Chloroplasts isolated from powdery mildew-infected (Erysiphe polygoni DC) sugar beet leaves (Beta vulgaris L) showed a reduction in the rate of electron transport and in the accompanying ATP formation in noncyclic photophosphorylation (water as electron donor, NADP as electron acceptor) and little or no change in the rate of ATP formation in cyclic photophosphorylation catalyzed by phenazine me...
